Adopting a Pet in Westchester County

To my way of thinking, few things make a house a home like a pet. We've rescued a few dogs in our time, and the latest is Max, pictured below. He is a purebred German Shepherd whom I rescued for a fraction of what it would have cost to buy a new puppy with papers. Westchester County has plenty of resources for pet adoption, and here are a few worth checking out:

If you are a horse person, contact me directly and I'll put you in touch with my agent Tiffany, who is connected to the horse rescue community. Horses have suffered in this economy. Tiffany is also Max's Godmother, as she found him on Petfinder.com for me. We had tragically just lost Bella (see my home page) and she was on the case.

You can also Google the type of breed you might prefer along with the term "rescue," such as Greyhound rescue or Labrador Rescue.

Woof! I love getting my hair on the couch

Phil - you are so right!  There is nothing like a pet to make a home complete.  We have rescued many a dog and have never regretted it.  Many Realtors in Lancaster, PA are actively involved in pet adoption agencies.  Many of us volunteer at the local Pet Smart.  They are always looking for an extra hand.  Although you have not had many responses I hope maybe someone found a pet through your many suggestions.  .

I'm with Jack. The list of local resources is very handy for anyone trying to deal with pet adoption or related issues. Our local real estate community has many members active in our local shelter, so maybe there's something connected between houses for sale and houses for pets.

Thanks Philip, it is so important to go to the rescue option. Our wonderful little Ziggy was in an abandoned situation, now he is the king of his own domain. What a joy!

I love dogs, too bad most of the Manhattan buildings aren't exactly pet friendly, plus I think we will be too busy to walk the dogs!
