This building is one of the biggest enigmas in Westchester. It is located in a very affluent area (in the Edgment section on busy Central Park Avenue), but has been derelict for years. More information here and here. One of the real neat pieces of architecture you'll see in southern Westchester, it sits, year after year, with little more than the lawn mowed. This is one prime piece of real estate, and it will be a shame if and when the land is developed to replace this unique, albeit under-appreciated building.

25 years ago it was my health club. Now, to me, it is just an eyesore and I would welcome it coming down and something pretty and usefull being built.
I really like this relic. I hope something can be done with it.
I'm sorry you see it as an eyesore Miriam but if you did some history of the building and it's arcitecture you'll see that it is a structure that should be preserved, and if it did come down, what do you really beleive would be built there, I would bet my life another strip mall of stores, just what Central Av needs.
Is this the one that's right next to the Oriental Rugs store? Thanks for sharing, quite a marvel stuck-in-time!
That carpet store is just a little north of the gym and looks like it's from the same era.
@ Randy, when you say, "did some history of the building and it's arcitecture", what types of references do you use? I ask because my grandfather, Don Parry, was the designer of the building, and his widow, (my grandmother) is quite distraught to see that many websites are citing Lee Underwood as the creative mind behind this historic and unique old landmark. We're interested in restoring Don's name to the piece, before it gets torn down/forgotten. Email me if you've got any details that might help, thanks!
Josh, I'd love to help, can you email me?
these were a chain of health clubs dating back to the early 70s - we also had one in Wilmington DE, exactly the same design. Sadly it was torn down decades ago.
Would love to see more photos of this property when it shined.
